Community Patrons
Getting a library card
Community members who are 12 years old and older may request a free courtesy card at the Access Services Desk, which is located immediately to your right upon entering the library. Photo ID AND proof of current mailing address are required. Applicants under the age of 18 (or their parent or guardian) must be able to provide proof of the applicant’s age and current mailing address. Photo IDs may be waived for applicants between the ages of 12 and 17; however, when this requirement is waived, the parent or guardian must present his/her photo ID.
Borrowing library materials
Most items in the collection may be borrowed for four weeks, with one four-week renewal (provided they have not been requested by another patron). Exceptions to this are items from the video and DVD collections, which circulate for two weeks with no renewals, and reference materials and periodicals, which do not circulate outside the Library. There is a 10-item limit on juvenile and young adult books and a 5-item limit on compact discs, videos, and DVDs.
Requesting materials from other libraries
If you need books and articles Mantor Library does not own or provide access to, chances are, we can get them for you through interlibrary loan. For more information, visit the Interlibrary Loan page or speak with a library staff member.
Library Resources
The library contains books, journals, magazines, newspapers, films, and music in support of the curriculum at UMF. We also offer online access to reference resources and thousands of journals, magazines, and newspapers through a variety of subscription databases avaible in the library.
Friendly and knowledgeable library staff and student workers are available to assist you with locating materials, using the equipment, or if you have any other questions. Please feel free to ask for help.

Computers and printing
A login is required to use any of the computers in the PMEC and all but two of the computers on the first floor. To qualify for a free computer account, you must be at least 16 years old, a permanent or seasonal resident of Maine, and able to provide a current Maine mailing address. You may pick up an account request form at the Access Services Desk. A computer account will allow you to use the library’s computers; it will not provide you access to the campus wireless network via your own laptop.
From either the first floor or third floor (PMEC) computers, you can print to the black and white laser printer located behind the Access Services Desk. You will be charged 10¢ per page when retrieving your printouts.
Photocopying
On the first floor, next to the Access Services Desk, two photocopiers are available; copies cost 10¢ per page. A change machine is located near the copiers. To save money, you can purchase a photocopy card for $8.50 at the Access Services Desk. This will allow for 100 8¢ copies plus a refund of 50¢ upon return of the used card.
Children in the library
While in Mantor Library, all children who are 15 years old and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent/adult guardian at all times. The adult is responsible for the child's behavior in an environment designed for research and study. Unescorted children will be required to leave the library.
Community patrons with disabilities
The University provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request.
Mantor Library provides access to two computer workstations (one on the first floor and one in the PMEC on the third floor) for persons with disabilities. For more information, please contact the library.
