Researching a Health Topic

 

The library has a number of databases that are good sources for locating health information.  You can search by keyword to find information on a topic.  Some databases also include full text articles!  Click on the Indexes and Databases link on the library’s homepage to get to these resources.

Keyword Searching in a Database
Use the following search tips to search by keyword in a database:

Examples

Use AND to join your search terms.

 

To find all the words

drug testing AND employees

Use OR to join alternate terms or synonyms.

 

To find any of the words

testing  OR screening

 

workplace OR job

 

Use  * at the end of words to find variant endings.

 

To find a variety of words that start with the same root

health* = health, healthy, healthier, etc.

 

stress* = stress, stressed, stressful, etc.

 

Use parentheses to join alternate terms with other keywords. 

Must be used with OR terms

employee* AND drugs AND (testing  OR screening)

 

(workplace OR job) and stress*
