I have not had as much chance to make use of the library and its services as I would like, but so far, my experiences have been very positive, and all the library staff very helpful. Having a reference librarian available to help me with searches at the computer would be helpful... I'm not sure when reference librarians are available or where to find them yet. While doing my research at Lesley Univserity, the reference librarians were visilbe next to the check out counter, seated at a desk, and were easily available to ask questions of... their role and location seemd more clearly identified than those of research librarians here at UMF. But really, I have not had enough experience to give an educated survey response about such things. Hopefully I will soon be in a better position to evaluate the library, after spending time this summer doing research.

The library service is great.  I would strongly recommend updated books in the children's literature dept.  This dept. is in desperate need for updated children's literature.

also, i would like to see the hours go to 12 all the time, not just for finals week, other than that, awesome job :D

The library staff needs to be more helpful and happy to help. I do not feel comfortable asking many of the employees for help in finding materials when. Especially in the student workers, I get a sense of laziness. The few times I come to the library for resources I feel as though no one really cares about what I need, and that I am being a burden to their leisure time. I also feel that the library should be open later than it is. I know that I often spend many nights doing work because that is the only time of day that I can sit down and do work. Living on-campus it is often loud in the residence halls, and I wish that when I come to the library I was able to stay later.

It is too noisy in the areas intended for individual study, such as the first floor where the tables are located, and the third floor where the individual study cubicles are located. People frequently talk loudly, and it is often library staff (at the information desk, having social conversations) doing so! It is very difficult to focus on my studies when people are talking. Also, I think that this problem could be lessened if the employees were to set an appropriate example for the patrons.

I had some problems with the interlibrary loan service offered and I called the library to ask how to take care of my hold and was told no one there could help me and that I had to call back.  I needed to get my transcripts and wanted to take care of my hold as quickly as possible and hearing that I had to call back was frustrating.  In the end, it worked out fine.

No, this survey was not hard, yes it was tedious and redundant.  A lot of the questions were the same.  Something not addressed here was the selection of books.  Get some new titles in the library.  Yes, it is a University library but some people do like to read for pleasure, there are hardly any good titles in our library.  The young adult section is completely lacking and could use many more titles.

More BOOKS on current education topics - Sure, I can get stuff from otehr campuses, but shouldn't UMF have at least SOME of what we need?

The building is nice - I spend alot of time in the study rooms on the 2nd floor - the tables could be cleaned more often, though.

The books are very outdated. Seating and study areas uncomfortable and falling apart. Staff is helpful and friendly generally. What do they do in the rooms on the third floor? Are they there to help students?

I often have a hard time finding books in Mantor on the topics I am researching.  When was the last time you guys bought a book? 

The staff are always willing to help me locate resources I can request from other libraries, but once in a while I'd like to be able to find what I need right here.

services offered have always been more than adequate in providing me with the information I need to get my work done in a complete and timely manner. Support staff has been excellent in handling any issues that have come up.

I would like to see more newer childrens books. I find it hard to do lessons when most of books are 10+ years old. A lot has changed over the years, and most of the books the library has is racist/sexist or is in too poor of condition to use in the classroom.

I also find that the catelog system is a little confusing. Most people I know have difficulty locating the books they need within the library.

Great place to study quietly and to meet with groups.  Very comfortable atmosphere.  I do a lot of my work in the library because I am able to focus.  The only complaint I have is the children's literature section.  Some books are useful and there is a variety of children's topics but the books need to be updated!  Most of the books are very outdated.  This is frustrating when looking for new books to use with children.  Also ~ curriculum resources for teachers would be helpful to as a resource.

I think that everyone in the library does an excellent job to ensure that each person finds what they are looking for. The library is a positive, friendly environment that allows for a quiet workspace for individual use as well as group work.

I'm horrible!  I have a reserve book WAY overdue!  I know that's bad and that you guys are unhappy, but you all have been nothing but polite even when telling me it HAS to be returned.  Thank you for being polite...I will get it back or pay for it soon!!!

I think you should have all the children's book in one library not half in the library adn half in the new library!!!  that is redicus because you have to go back and forth to find books!

The library has an awesome staff, but I would like more large group areas because I feel like we are disrupting others when we work at the tables on the ground floor. Also, I don't use the library's resources often because the internet has everything I need.

Many student workers have been unable to help me in my research in the past.  Most of these times, these employees did not offer to ask someone who may know how to help me.  This has been the greatest disappointment with the library.

It would be helpful if the library were opened at 7am now that we have moreclasses that begin at 8. A lot of times, I would love to spend the first part of the morning in the library studying or looking for resources for my following classes. I may not have that time later on in the day.

Most of the student workers are rude and don't know anything about the library so I avoid going there as much as possible. The buidling is very hard to navigate and find information in. And there is rarely a quiet room open to study in

I'd like to be able to renew books more than once as long as there isn't a waiting list. I'm reading a long book and I'm almost done, but I can't renew it again!

The library needs to be open until at least midnight during the school week, later than 5 pm on Saturdays, and a lot earlier than 1 pm on Sundays.  Sundays are the most popular days for library work!  Other than that, I am pretty satisfied.

The children's book section is in need of more high quality literature. Professors often assign students to bring in books to connect with a given topic and I rarely find the books I need at the library.

The hours are a little strange especially during finals week where everyone is rushing to get work done and they need a good working environment. Last semester I really needed to be in the library but they closed at 9 and I needed more hours than that. The gym is open til 11 and the library is only open til 9!! Just a thought.

Overall, I think the library services are average; however, many of the student employees are unhelpful and not very friendly. Some of the print sources seem a bit out of date (1970-1980). Would be helpful to have more group study rooms with doors. I have gone to the library before with a group and was unable to find an open study room on either the 2nd floor or in the basement.

I find the front desk difficult, they are unwilling to work with you espcially if you are required to have a book. There needs to be some flexability in policy. Everyone else (ref desk and upstairs) have been wonderfully helpful whenever needed.

The staff often seems to just sit and watch people. Sometimes the people at the front dest are talking and giggling instead of helping the waiting people.
