Copyright Law of
the United States - Title 17, United States Code
This law governs the
making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted
materials. Under the conditions of the law, libraries are
authorized to furnish photocopies or reproductions of copyrighted
materials. By law, copyrighted materials may not be "used
for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research."
If an ILL user makes a request and later uses a photocopy or
reproduction for purposes other than those described as fair use,
the user may be liable for copyright infringement. Title 17
and ALA guidelines on fair use specify the number of requests that
can be made each year from a particular journal title. Mantor
Library reserves the right to refuse a request for copies or
reproductions of copyrighted material if, in the judgment of the
staff, fulfillment of the request would violate the copyright laws.
