The following is a summary of
how to access library resources and use library equipment. Students taking a
short course during a semester break or a Summer Institute course who are not
enrolled in degree programs at the University generally do not know what is needed to use the
library and its resources. This information is intended for faculty
teaching those types of courses to help clarify what students need and who to
contact if they have questions.
To
Check Out Books:
Students need a library barcode on a UMF student ID or on a temporary
library card (if not enrolled as a student in a degree program). Access
Services staff will create a temporary card for anyone taking a short course
during Winter Term or May Term or a Summer Institute course. Students need to
come to the library to pick up their temporary cards.
To Use
the Databases in the Library:
Students need a campus ID to log into any computers on campus or to access the
wireless network. The Computer
Center assigns the log-ins to students, and students need to go to the
Computer
Center to pick them up.
To Use
the Databases Off-Campus:
Students must have a library barcode to access the Mantor Library databases
from off-campus. The same library card that students use to check out books
can also be used to access the UMF databases remotely. Students need to come
to the library to pick up their temporary cards.
To
Print from a Library Computer:
Students must have money on their student print account to print from any
computer anywhere on campus, including the library. The print accounts are
created by the Computer Center as a part of the campus ID log-in. The account has no starting balance,
and students need to add money to their account using the machine at the
Computer
Center. Printing costs 3¢ per page for students.
To
Photocopy in the Library:
Students can pay 10¢ per page for photocopies or purchase a copy card for
$8.50 (100 copies at 8¢ per page, plus 50¢ refundable deposit for the card).
Copy cards can be purchased at Access Services.
To
Print from Microfilm/fiche in the Library:
Printing options vary by machine. Students can either pay 10¢ per page for
photocopies or purchase a copy card for $8.50 (100 copies at 8¢ per page, plus
50¢ refundable deposit for the card).
Copy cards can be purchased at Access Services.
