Welcome Education MS Students!

Mantor Library has prepared some documents to help give you an overview of the services we have available to help you get the most out of your education. Please come by the library, call or email us if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!

Library Basics

First things first…

Turn your UMF ID into your library card at the Access Services Desk, which is located immediately to your right upon entering the library.

Borrowing library materials

Most items in the collection may be borrowed for four weeks, with one four-week renewal (provided they have not been requested by another patron). Exceptions to this are items from the video and DVD collections, which circulate for two weeks with no renewals, and reference materials and periodicals, which do not circulate outside the Library. There is a 10-item limit on juvenile and young adult books and a 5-item limit on compact discs, videos, and DVDs.

Requesting materials from other libraries

If you need books and articles Mantor Library does not own or provide access to, chances are, we can get them for you through interlibrary loan. For more information, see the Interlibrary Loan information on the Services page or speak with a library staff member.

Research support

The library contains books, journals, magazines, newspapers, films, and music in support of the curriculum at UMF. We also offer online access to reference resources and thousands of journals, magazines, and newspapers through a variety of subscription databases.

Need help focusing your topic, finding information, and/or citing your sources properly? Library staff members are available to assist you with your research every step of the way!

Course reserves

Reserves are materials selected by faculty as required or recommended reading (or viewing or listening) for their courses. For more information, see the Course Reserves page.

Study areas/rooms

Book basement: Three individual and four group study rooms, individual study carrels

First floor: Browsing room off the lobby, group study room off the reference desk, study tables and individual study carrels at the back of the reference area

Second floor: Quiet study area of tables and individual study carrels, four group study rooms

Third floor: Couches and chairs, tables, and individual study carrels

Computers and printing

You must login with your campus computer ID (which you get at the Computer Center’s Help Desk) to use any of the computers in the PMEC and all but two of the computers on the first floor.

From the first floor computers, you can print to the black and white laser printer located near the Reference Desk. In the PMEC on the third floor, you can print to the black and white laser printer by the instructor station. For both printers, a 3¢ per page fee will be automatically deducted from your laser printer account at the Computer Center.

Wireless Internet access is available to students with laptops that have been registered on the campus network. Students with EXCEL laptops may print to the printer near the Reference Desk.

Photocopying

On the first floor, next to the Access Services Desk, two photocopiers are available; copies cost 10¢ per page. A change machine is located near the copiers. To save money, you can purchase a photocopy card for $8.50 at the Access Services Desk. This will allow for 100 8¢ copies plus a refund of 50¢ upon return of the used card.

Students with disabilities

The University provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request.

Mantor Library provides access to two computer workstations (one on the first floor and one in the PMEC on the third floor) for persons with disabilities. For more information, please contact the library.
